NEW CABINET Explorer By Jaime Hayon
The Explorer series comes straight from Hayon's own cosmos—his drawings—in airy yet elegant objects, finished with a playful, beautiful sheen. For many years, Jaime Hayon has designed furniture with simple, organic shapes—in anticipation of children running around the edges, but also simply because they are elegant and beautiful.
The newest member of the Explorer family uses the same clean curves and playful colors as its predecessors: a dining table, various side tables, and several vases. A family available in an ever-increasing number of sizes and color combinations, a perfect addition to any living space.
Before the forced lockdown due to the pandemic, which we are still experiencing today, we presented a "starter" for this new collection—a series of three side tables named Explorer 1, 2, and 3. So far, these have been commercially successful. This is perhaps because they are reminiscent of jelly beans, the round candies that children in the United States eat. "This childlike inspiration simultaneously has a very elegant beauty that is generally characteristic of my designs. They are about new shapes, different objects within the market that want to become emblematic pieces because these tables are not only functional but also sculpturally strong," explains Hayon.
Vitra Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman
Vitra now produces the Original Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman with the exclusive Vitra fabric "Nubia." Nubia is a mottled fabric with a vibrant, natural look. The fine underlay alternates with voluminous bouclé yarns, giving the fabric depth and a soft, inviting touch. The various yarn combinations create contrasting or muted color compositions with a distinctly Mediterranean flair.
Nubia fabric offers unparalleled comfort with cushioned seats, a plywood-veneered shell, and a cast aluminum base. The five-point base allows for a built-in swivel mechanism, while the ottomans have a four-point fixed base. Both are available in a polished or black lacquered finish. This comfortable classic is a masterpiece of the 20th century and is renowned for its reclining position, pivot point, cushioning, and form-fitting design. The Eames Lounge Chair is beloved by all ages and offers luxurious comfort.
The iconic Eames Lounge Chair by Vitra was originally designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1956 as a birthday gift for filmmaker Billy Wilder. Their inspiration stemmed from a single question: "Why don't we make an updated version of the old English club chair?" With this remark, Charles Eames initiated the development of the Lounge Chair. The goal was to satisfy the desire for a generously proportioned chair that combined ultimate comfort with the highest quality materials and craftsmanship to offer the highest possible level of seating pleasure.
Since the armchair first went into production, the average height worldwide has increased by almost 10 cm. In close collaboration with the Eames Office, Vitra developed the new, larger version so that taller people can also enjoy the same exceptional comfort that Charles and Ray Eames envisioned with their original 1956 design.
